How do I know Whether I need Botox?

Muscle tension caused by TMJ in the jaw muscle (Masseter and Temporalis) can get very severe. Patients who get migraines or jaw tension very commonly may benefit from Botox. Botox injected into these areas takes about 3-4 weeks to fully take effect. Once active, those muscles will weaken and relieve tension. It can reduce the frequency, intensity and duration of a migraine.

Patients who have been told that they grind their teeth at night and experience daytime jaw tension are excellent candidates.

Additionally, patients who experience frequent migraines can benefit tremendously from Botox injections every 3 months. Botox is FDA approved for treatment of migraines. At times, some people who get Botox for TMJ muscle areas find their quality of life improves as the number of migraines go down.

Is Botox Permanent?

Botox is never permanent. Botox binds to muscle receptors but in 3 months the muscles will start working again. If you require Botox regularly, you may find that you can stretch out visits to 4-5 months after you have had several repeated visits.

Botox for V-shape Face

Patients with strong masseter muscles can benefit esthetically from Botox injection in the jaw. Botox injections can give the face a V-shape appearance which is more desirable among women more frequently. This is a great way to keep tension away while being able to make a quick change to one's face.

It is important to note that changes will not be visible until 3-4 weeks later when working with muscles to improve the V-line.

Depending on the amount of botox used, you may notice that you get tired more quickly when chewing.
